CPS Nelson GiantsA new season, a new sponsor, a NEW look.
We are into our second year of sponsorship with the Nelson Giants, and with a new sponsor
onboard it was the perfect time to create a totally new brand for New Zealand's most
successful National Basketball franchise.
With such a proud history, it was obvious the new brand had to pay tribute to past
campaigns and successes, but it also needed to have a keen eye on the future and as those
within the Giants said, "Please make our brand cool". After initial meetings with owners
and management, 7DS created the Giants brand values. This is the most critical step in any
brand work, that's because the brand values are used as a brief and the basis for every
single piece of design. If the foundations of the brand values are weak, then so will be
the brand.
After establishing the brand values it was 'all hands on deck' as everything had to be in
place before the season kicked off, and that was only 7 weeks away. With that in mind we
burned some midnight oil to create, produce and implement the NEW brand mark onto:
- uniforms
- merchandise
- new website
- signage
- game tickets
- season passes
- advertising
- match programmes
- 'warm up' pre-season party invites
No small feat, but now it's all over we look back at the Giants brand mark with a large
amount of satisfaction, and judging by everyones response, this contemporary brand mark
with a certain amount of street credibility is just what the GIANTS needed.
Oh yes, part of the rebrand was to rename the (quite ugly) Trafalgar Centre to 'the hangar'
(cause it looks just like one). It's early days, but this injection of personality also
looks to be a success.
